Keep Your Kitty Happy With These Tips.

Although cats make great pets, they can be expensive. Vet bills, toys, food, and cat litter costs can make anyone reconsider owning cats. The following article has some great advice to help you care for your cat.

You should make sure your cat stays groomed properly. A cat requires regularly brushing and combing. This will keep your cat’s coat clean. In addition, it helps decrease shedding, which results in less hairballs. Regularly grooming your cat will help keep it and your home looking great.

You must always take your cat for regular vet check-ups. Cats need yearly shots and overall health assessments. Make sure you keep the same veterinarian for your pet throughout its life. This is because this person will know your cat and the history of the animal.

Female Cat

If you own a female cat, you should have her spayed when she is old enough. If an indoor cat gets out, you may soon have kittens. Your best bet is to have your female cat spayed.

Part of caring for your cat is taking it to regular veterinarian checkups. They need a routine check-up every year, maybe more of important shots are necessary. If a condition, illness, or injury happens, your cat should be taken to the vet immediately.

Dog products shouldn’t be used on cats. Your cat will have a bad reaction to anything that has been specifically formulated for a dog. This warning applies to products for getting rid of fleas. These dog flea products can even cause feline death. In fact, it is a good idea to separate your cat and dog for a few hours after your dog has taken flea medication.

Spraying the electrical cords in your home with a bitter apple solution helps keep the cats from chewing on them. You can also cover your cords under a rug or tape them to walls. Tuck loose cords into old toilet paper or paper towel rolls. Put away electronics that have tempting, thin cords when you’re not using them.

Microchip your cat. You may not have had trouble with your cat getting loose previously, but it can happen at any time by accident. Cats can get out of a collar or, worse, have that collar choke them to death. Microchips are extremely small, but they can hold all the same information as an identification tag. Many vets and shelters have scanners that can read these chips and since they lie under their skin, they won’t get lost.

Any pet can be a constant price tag, and cats are certainly no different. Cats require a lot of care, almost like an actual human child. As you now know, you can curtail the expenses of having cats while you still get to enjoy giving them good care.
